In 1962 a new firm, Motherwell Bridge Thermal, moved into the former workshops of Scottish Oils Ltd. The entire site cost the company £78,425, covered an area of thirteen acres and initially offered a total area of 70,500 square feet (with an additional 30,000 square feet made available shortly after). According to the company, some £400,000 was invested in expanding the workshop premises and installing modern machinery. Many of the existing workforce were taken on by the new company.
It wasn't long before they received their first order, worth £15,000, from Courtaulds Ltd to manufacture heat exchangers.
In the 1970's, Motherwell Bridge returned record profits, mainly because of the boom in the north sea oil industry.
In 1993, the downturn in the oil and gas industry unfortunately resulted in Motherwell Bridge Thermal's base in Uphall and Motherwell Bridge Fabricator's base in Motherwell being merged and all the Uphall operations were relocated to the existing site in Motherwell.
The Motherwell Bridge factory was demolished in early 2002 and the area is now the Persimmon Homes development of South Middleton.
