Between 1979 and 1994, Scotland's Euro MEP's were elected to the parliament via the first past the post method.

Since 1999, Scotland's MEP's have been elected by the D'Hondt system from party lists.  Scotland is now one constituency (8 representatives elected in 1999, 7 elected in 2004 and 6 elected in 2009). The total Scottish votes tally for each party then determines who from each party list is elected.

Below are the results for the European Parliament Lothian Region (1979-1994) and European Parliament Scottish Region (1999-2014).
